Freire Charter School Wilmington is expanding by a full grade level next school year and are hiring for the full range of subject areas (exact grade level to be taught ranges between 8th – 12th grade). Please note that current Delaware license and certification in the subject area or enrollment in approved alternate route certification is required for all teaching roles. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is an administrative position responsible for assisting the Co-Head of School, Academics in setting and pushing the vision for instruction in the school. Responsibilities include: mentoring, coaching, and evaluating teaching staff; determining school-wide instructional focus and professional development plan; coordinating academic interventions; scheduling; and much more. At least three years of demonstrated success teaching in urban schools is required.
College Counselors hold the primary responsibility for ensuring that our seniors are going on to college and other post-secondary options and that our juniors are well prepared for the process. Counselors meet frequently with individual students and families and keep students on track with their plans. Successful candidates will have both superb organizational and writing skills as well as a strong ability to form trusting relationships with students.
The administrative assistant position is a full time role responsible for a variety of administrative tasks in the school. Tasks may include greeting students and visitors, answering primary phone line, admissions paperwork, responding to parents, organizing special education files, taking other phone calls, and others. Strong organizational skills, relational ability, and prior experience in schools preferred.
The instructional paraprofessional role is a full time position dedicated to supporting individual and small groups of students, particularly those with higher academic needs. Academic advisors are our version of guidance counselors. They meet frequently with students, especially those struggling academically or behaviorally, and are able to motivate and engage students and families in order to succeed. Successful academic advisors are highly organized, able to balance the needs of scores of students, as well as highly motivating for the students they meet with. They are able to communicate frequently with families as well as connect students to opportunities.
The IT coordinator is responsible for keeping all our technology systems up and running as well as pushing forward our uses of technology to do the best by our students. Responsibilities include: maintaining computers, laptops, printers, and projectors throughout the building and maintaining other digital systems including phones, internet, and school information systems.
