“You need to be challenged early on so you can face challenges in the future and in college. It’s not like other schools. It’s not like you come to school, do your work, and get out. You come to school to be a part of the Freire family.”
Joshua, Grade 12

“There’s no tolerance for bullying, no fighting. That was what made me realize this was the right school for me. We’re all a family, and you have a voice here. If you tell a teacher something is going on, they’ll help you.”

Graduation x2
Freire Wilmington is all about Graduation x2 – graduation not just from high school, but from college, too. The proven Freire model provides challenging academics and comprehensive supports that will help guarantee your success at Freire, in college, and beyond.
If you want to go to college, Freire is where you need to be. The Freire Schools Network sends more of its graduates to college than almost any other public high school in Delaware. In fact, only 3 of the 36 Delaware public high schools exceed the national average (68%) for college enrollment.
Freire’s rigorous college-prep curriculum is designed to ensure that every Freire student graduates with the credits required for acceptance at any top college in the US. This includes four years each of English, math, science, and social studies, as well as three years of foreign language study. In addition to these intensive requirements, we offer a variety of courses that engage students deeply with their learning and bring to life connections between students’ classwork, their communities and real-world issues.
High Standards, High Supports
Freire’s rigorous curriculum and strong academic counseling will challenge your student to achieve at a higher level than ever before—and make sure they have the support they need to get there.
Laptops for Everyone!
Starting this year, Freire offers one-to-one technology, with a laptop provided to every student for use at home—not only making real integrated learning possible during school closures, but revolutionizing the way Freire students learn in the years to come.
College Counseling
Freire’s dedicated college counselors work closely and carefully with every student starting in 8th grade to make sure they have everything they need to attend the best college for them—from applying and being accepted, to applying for financial aid, to having all of the academic skills they’ll need to thrive in college.
